What we do

As the principal voice of banking and payments in Ireland, and as the key point of contact on industry matters for policy makers, legislators and other stakeholders, BPFI provides the following membership services.

Dedicated Member Engagement and Support

  • Building and maintaining effective business relationships with members to fully understand their business
  • Informing members on developments relating to their business
  • Delivering workshops, seminars, conferences and networking events on areas pertinent to the business of our members
  • Supporting members in the achievement of their goals as part of a regulated and profitable business environment
  • Championing the role of the sector in Ireland in driving economic recovery, growth and societal wellbeing

Build and Represent Industry Positions

  • Consulting with our members to establish common positions on issues affecting the industry
  • Formulating agreed positions
  • Representing those agreed positions to policy makers, legislators, regulators, and other stakeholders

EU and International Insight and Influence

  • Through the work of our Brussels and Frankfurt based offices we are well placed to represent Ireland’s banking and payments industry at an international level
  • Gaining early insight on policy developments through advanced intelligence gathering
  • Identifying and asserting national financial sector positions
  • Inputting to the thinking and outcomes on policy matters through representation of sector positions

Supporting the National Payments Plan

  • Driving the modernisation of the payments infrastructure
  • Creating an open and competitive environment for payments in Ireland
  • Ensuring the governance and standards, compliance and risk management of the payment systems and schemes
  • Actively engaging with all Stakeholders  in the development of payments services in Ireland

External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicating the sector views, role, and contribution in support of the economic and social environment
  • Listening to and noting the views of stakeholders as they relate to our sector
  • Engaging with stakeholders through our conference and events programme
  • Promoting a positive business and regulatory environment

Discharge of Designated Sector Roles

  • Facilitating requests from government, regulators, and other bodies for representation on behalf of the sector
  • Fulfilling agreed responsibilities efficiently and effectively in the public interest
  • Co-ordinating the implementation of prescribed measures and other initiatives
