Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) will host a half day seminar on Safeguarding Our Customers on Tuesday 13th March in The Westbury Hotel, Grafton Street, Dublin 2.
BPFI members are looking to improve the experience of and outcomes for customers who are vulnerable, often identifying this as a key part of an enhanced banking culture that places customers centre stage. This seminar is an opportunity to:
Learn how financial service providers should prepare for the significant requirements of the Assistant Decision Making Legislation,
Understand better how to best meet the requirements of customers who may be in vulnerable circumstances.
Many banks in Ireland have implemented policies and training to help staff properly identify and assist such customers. Of real interest to members and stakeholders is Dr. Amanda Phelan’s presentation of the findings of unique UCD Research into the experience of frontline staff in dealing with customers who may be the victims of financial abuse. Based on a survey of frontline staff and in-depth interviews with senior bank staff and stakeholders, the research allow us consider the challenges, existing best practice, and potential solutions.
Dr. Aine Flynn, Director of the new Decision Support Services agency established under the Assisted Decision Making Act, 2015, will discuss how financial service providers should prepare for the significant requirements of this legislation. With this legislation heralding a societal change in the approach to mental capacity, experts from the HSE National Safeguarding Office will provide helpful insights and training and we will learn about innovative practices from the UK banking sector.
